The Biska Jatra, a chariot-pulling festival that began in Bhaktapur on Saturday, resulted in the injuries of 19 people.
Some people were hurt after falling off the chariot, while others were hurt in brawls among the revelers.
According to police, 79-year-old Krishna Gopal Mulguthi and 26-year-old Dipesh Sangache were injured after coming under the wheels of the chariot as it approached Nasman at around 7:00 p.m.
Similarly, while pulling the chariot, Manish Sintakal, Ramesh Mata, Amik Tyayana, and Sunil Bhujel were injured.
They are being treated in a number of hospitals in the Kathmandu valley.
Another brawl broke out about 1:00 a.m. between the parties responsible for pulling the chariot. Following a disagreement over following the route defined by the Bhaktapur municipality, people pelted stones at each other.
This morning, the chariot-pulling resumed, and the chariot was taken to Gahiti.
The District Administration Office had instructed the locals not to hold the festival this year because of Covid-19 concerns, but the Supreme Court had stayed the decision due to the locals’ threat of defiance.
