For one month, the government of Nepal has agreed to close all schools in the urban areas of the Covid-19-affected districts.
According to government spokesperson Parbat Gurung, the decision was taken at a cabinet meeting on Monday morning to be effective until mid-May. According to him, the meeting also encouraged the school to reintroduce online learning.
Last week, the federal government’s Health Ministry advised residents in 14 districts, including Kathmandu, to avoid crowds such as schools. After the Ministry of Education declined to close campuses, the ministry resorted to filing an appeal, according to reports.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education had given district officials the authority to make the required decisions.
