Before the split of the CPN (Maoist), Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said that he would move forward by making ‘People’s Democracy’ his party’s program.
Interest in the views of the former Maoist leaders has increased at the CPN-UML’s general convention scheduled to be held on December 20 next year.
The meeting of the Central Committee, which was also attended by the leaders of the CPN-UML who did not return to the CPN-Maoist, fixed the date of the General Convention.
But according to Mani Thapa, a minister who has joined the UML, there has been no discussion on “ideas and politics”.
People’s Democracy is the motto!
He said that the date of the regular general convention has been fixed “considering the general convention necessary to settle party disputes and participate in the election.”
Another former UCPN (Maoist) leader and minister, Gauri Shankar Chaudhary, said that the general convention would be held on the scheduled date if no special situation arose.
Former Maoist leaders including Ram Bahadur Thapa, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Lekhraj Bhatt and Prabhu Sah have also joined the UML.
Thapa says, “It is not possible to change one’s mind now, it is a matter of sticking to the old values, but the overall communist movement should be debated.”
He is confident that all former Maoist leaders will agree to accept Jabz now, calling it “politics according to the Supreme Court’s order”.
Parties that consider themselves revolutionary communists have been sharply critical of the idea of People’s Democracy
One of the leaders, who is considered to be the prime minister, said that the idea of People’s Democracy would naturally continue after the formation of the UML.
Experts say that if they want to amend it, a separate political report should be brought to the General Convention.
“We don’t need to bring a separate report after coming here, I don’t think we should do that,” said Minister Chaudhary.
He said that the situation is still moving forward.
Minister Chaudhry said, “But there could be a discussion on what topics and how the fragmented communists can come together, and a debate will ensue.”
But he said “if there are any linguistic or other problems, we will move forward by consensus.”
While Oli’s bitterness with a faction within the CPN-UML has increased, the former Maoist leaders are supporting the Prime Minister.
During the CPN (Maoist), one of the chairpersons, Prachanda, had been saying that it was necessary to move forward by assimilating the characteristics of Jabaj and other leaders close to him had said that accepting Jabaj would be a step backwards.
Among UML cadres and supporters, the election symbol Surya and Jabaj are considered very popular.
