Elon Musk, CEO of US electric car company Tesla, has responded to China. Musk said on Saturday that the company would shut down in China if Tesla’s car was used for espionage.
Musk was responding to reports that the Chinese military had banned Tesla cars from operating on its premises.
Speaking at a virtual discussion on a major Chinese forum, Elon Musk said there were a variety of reasons why they should keep any information highly confidential. He also announced that Tesla would be shut down in China or elsewhere if any vehicles were used for espionage.
Objection to the camera mounted on the Chinese army car
According to international media, the Chinese military has banned Tesla cars from entering its premises. The army took the step in protest of the camera attached to Tesla’s car. The cameras were banned by China, citing concerns over security concerns. The report was made public during talks between Chinese and US officials. Officials from the two countries are holding talks for the first time since Joe Biden became US president.
The world’s two largest economies need to restore trust
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has called on the United States and China, two of the world’s largest economies, to restore mutual trust. In addition, Musk held discussions with Chinese experts on quantum physics.
Tesla sold about 1.5 million cars in China last year
China is the world’s largest car market and there is great competition for electric vehicles. Last year, Tesla sold 147,445 cars in China. In China, however, there is fierce competition between Tesla and a domestic carmaker, Neo Inc.
