Former Maoist leaders, including Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Lekhraj Bhatta, Prabhu Sah, and Gauri Shankar Chaudhary, who were expelled from the House of Representatives, have petitioned the Supreme Court to be reinstated.
They argue that the Parliament Secretariat’s decision to dismiss them as lawmakers based on a letter from CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’Prachanda’ violates the constitution, existing laws, and the party’s charter. They have asked the court to issue a mandamus order ordering their reinstatement.
The leaders who defected to the CPN-UML had previously filed a complaint with the Election Commission, requesting that the CPN-registration UML’s be revoked (Maoist Center). The application, however, was rejected by the Election Commission.
