The Pashupati Area Development Trust has decided to close the revered temple for Hindus from all over the world indefinitely, citing an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in Kathmandu.
The trust’s treasurer, Milan Kumar Thapa, sent a’very urgent’ notice to the public on Thursday, stating that the temple would be closed from Friday until further notice. According to him, the Guhyeshwari temple, as well as other major shrines in the city, have been closed.
During this time, Thapa said, routine daily worships and prayers will continue without the participation of tourists.
The temple was also closed last year, on March 24, 2020, when the country was placed on lockdown to stop the spread of the coronavirus. It only reopened in December.
Several religious organizations had opposed the temple’s closure at the time.
