“Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba over the phone today. The two Prime Ministers discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations further. The Prime Minister of India has assured Nepal of an early supply of Covid-19 vaccines, according to a tweet from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the conversation, Indian Prime Minister Modi also congratulated and bestowed his best wishes on Prime Minister Deuba.
“We will work together to further strengthen India-Nepal cooperation, including in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic,” Modi said in a tweet.
After the Serum Institute of India failed to supply one million vaccines that Nepal had already paid for, 1.4 million elderly citizens in Nepal are still waiting for the second dose.
Modi congratulated Deuba shortly after he won a vote of confidence in Parliament earlier on Sunday.
“Congratulations Prime Minister @DeubaSherbdr and best wishes for a successful tenure,” Narendra Modi wrote on Twitter. I look forward to working with you to strengthen our deep-rooted people-to-people ties and further enhance our unique partnership in all sectors.”
Sher Bahadur Deuba responded to Modi’s tweet with, “Thank you very much, Prime Minister @narendramodi Ji, for your congratulatory note.” I look forward to working closely with you to strengthen our two countries’ and peoples’ relations.”
