Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, congratulated Sher Bahadur Deuba, the new Prime Minister of Nepal, on his appointment.
“Congratulations and best wishes for a successful tenure,” Prime Minister Modi said on Twitter on Sunday.
“I look forward to working with you to expand our unique collaboration in all areas and build our deep-rooted people-to-people ties,” PM Modi added.
Sher Bahadur Deuba received a vote of confidence in parliament on Sunday, prompting Prime Minister Modi to send a congratulatory message.
In the House of Representatives’ second session on Sunday, Prime Minister Deuba received 165 votes in his favor and 83 votes against him. Similarly, one legislator remained uncommitted.
In the Parliament on Sunday, there were a total of 249 lawmakers present.
To obtain the confidence of the house, Deuba needs the backing of at least 138 members.
The parliament convened for the first time on Sunday after the Supreme Court reconstituted it and ruled that President Deuba of the Nepali Congress (NC) be appointed Prime Minister, after a petition submitted by 146 legislators.
In addition, the confidence vote was given to PM Deuba by 26 lawmakers from the UML’s Madhav Kumar Nepal faction.
