Ncell and UNDP have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to support sustainable development in Nepal. The collaboration will encourage people to ride bicycles in order to live healthier lives and live in healthier cities.
Under the Sustainable Development Goals initiative, UNDP (The United Nations Development Programme) and Ncell Axiata Limited have joined for a campaign to promote sustainable development solutions, including cycling for healthy lives and healthy cities in Nepal.
On June 4, UNDP Resident Representative Ayshanie Medagangoda Labe and Ncell CEO Andy Chong virtually signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on the eve of World Environment Day 2021. As part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR), Ncell will help to increase the coverage of the cycling campaigns in places outside of the valley. The program will make use of existing technologies to track, map, credit, and reward cyclists for their contributions to healthy cities.
Cycling For Health And Cleanliness
The bicycle promotion focuses on cities. Greenway, the bike program, launched in January 2021 with the goal of encouraging sustainable urban mobility and environmentally friendly lifestyle choices for city dwellers. Cycling programs show how they can be used as an alternate means of transportation that is clean, healthy, and economical for city commuters.
The Greenway Campaign hopes to stimulate the use of bicycles or the transition to bicycles through a game that rewards bikers. as well as clean businesses that support and participate in the game
Cycling to Improve Urban Life
“Through this Memorandum of Understanding, UNDP and Ncell put our shoulders to the wheel and set it in motion. Simply put, to stay active, save lives, and safeguard the environment,” said Ayshanie Medagangoda Labe, UNDP Resident Representative in Nepal.
She emphasized the importance of public-private collaborations in achieving urban sustainability goals. She claimed that the collaboration will aid in the reduction of air pollution, traffic congestion, and road safety. As a result, the quality of life for Nepal’s millions of city people would improve.”
Similarly, Ncell CEO Andy Chong expressed his delight in the company’s collaboration with UNDP. “The campaign has the potential to alter the way we travel in cities,” he stated, emphasizing the benefits of riding.
