Kalpana Pariyar (shooting), Saraswoti Chaudhary (athletics), Gaurika Singh, and Alex Jung Shah (swimming), and Sonia Bhatta (swimming) are among the players who have won opportunities to represent the country in the mega sporting event (judo). They were all chosen as wild cards for the Summer Olympics in recognition of their contributions to their respective sports.
Pariyar, who is an expert in the 10-meter air rifle, and Chaudhary, who holds the national record in the 100-meter dash, are Nepal Army (NA) players.
Today, the NA held a ceremony at its headquarters to honor the players of its departmental team, the Tribhuvan Army Club, who had been selected to compete in the Olympic Games.
Purna Chandra Thapa, Chief of Army Staff, presented them with a bag containing sporting equipment and wished them luck in the competition. On the basis of the NA’s ongoing and extraordinary contribution to the growth of the country’s sports sector, 24 athletes from the NA have been able to perform their skills at the Olympics thus far, according to Army Chief Thapa.
