KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and Chairperson of the CPN-UML KP Oli has slammed the Nepali Congress (NC) for forming an alliance with CPN-Maoist Center chief Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.
On Sunday afternoon, the PM accused the NC of abandoning democracy and following Prachanda’s instructions in an interview with journalists associated with Press Chautari.
“The so-called democratic party NC has adopted Prachandapath with Prachanda as its mentor,” the Prime Minister said, adding that “no democrat will oppose the idea of going to election for a fresh mandate from the people.”
He slammed NC leaders’ statements that they would boycott the election if he were prime minister.
“What kind of democratic essence does it take to refuse to recognize an election conducted under the premiership of an individual who has a majority in the legislature?” “Wasn’t it under NC’s election that the party received just 23 seats in the House of Representatives?” PM Oli quipped sarcastically.
PM Oli also chastised the media, accusing them of making a mountain out of the COVID-19 crisis.
“Rather than assuring the people about their wellbeing by highlighting the government’s good deeds, they are giving room to the public’s woes and sufferings,” he said.
He blamed the opposition alliance’s leaders for the government’s poor performance and said he had been distracted from work from the start.
