Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ Chairman of the CPN-Maoist Center, has demanded action against Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli for violating the election code of conduct on Wednesday.
Prachanda asked the Election Commission to take action against PM Oli in a statement issued Wednesday evening, as he urged voters to vote for National Assembly (NA) by-election candidate Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ during the silence time.
On Thursday, a by-election for the NA seat in Bagmati Province will be held.
“It is against the basic principle of elections for the head of government to appeal in favor of a candidate rather than conducting free, equal, and dignified elections,” the statement said, adding, “Condemning the Prime Minister’s act, I urge the Election Commission to take necessary action.”
The statement noted that making a public appeal during the time of silence is a serious breach of the election code of conduct.
Prime Minister Oli said in a statement released Wednesday afternoon that CPN-UML voters would not be forgiven if they did not vote for his party’s candidate, Badal.
