Following a recommendation from the Council of Ministers, the President issued the ordinance.
Attacking an on-duty health worker is punishable by up to four years in prison or a fine of up to Rs 200,000, or both.
Provision has been proposed for anyone who padlock, picket, or vandalize a health facility.
In light of the recorded occurrences of attacks on doctors and nurses, the administration went back to the ordinance to revise the legislation.
