On Sunday, President Bidya Devi Bhandari reappointed Ram Bahadur Thapa as Home Minister.
Later this afternoon, he will take the oath of office and confidentiality in the President’s Office.
He had been appointed as the home minister in Oli’s cabinet in February 2018, but he had lost his job after his faction, the CPN-Maoist Centre, expelled him, effectively forcing him to resign from the National Assembly.
Thapa is one of a number of KP leaders who have joined the party. Following Oli’s dissolution of the House of Representatives in December 2020, Sharma Oli led the CPN-UML by defecting to the Maoist Centre.
For the same cause, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Lekh Raj Bhatta, Prabhu Sah, and Gauri Shankar Chaudhary were removed from the House of Representatives. These four were all serving ministers who had to be reappointed by Prime Minister Oli.
