Tika Dhakal, the President’s Information and Communication Expert, said President Bhandari made the appointment in response to a Supreme Court mandamus ruling. Today’s oath-taking ceremony has been set at 6 p.m.
The Supreme Court reinstated the House of Representatives and issued a mandamus order to the President to designate Deuba as Prime Minister within 28 hours.
Deuba was the Prime Minister of Nepal for four terms, from 1995 to 1997, 2001 to 2002, 2004 to 2005, and 2017 to 2018. To stay in power, Deuba now needs to win a vote of confidence in the lower chamber within the next 30 days.
