In the midst of the country’s chaotic political climate, a significant force in national politics, the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, is on the verge of splitting, with one side of the party dismissing representatives from the other section.
The party was created in April 2020 after a dramatic merger of the then Rastriya Janata Party and the Sanghiya Samajbadi Party, which separated as a group supporting Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and ready to join his cabinet.
While Mahantha Thakur and Rajendra Mahato hastened negotiations with Oli, the opposing side, led by Baburam Bhattarai and Upendra Yadav, has removed them from the party’s general membership. Laxman Lal Karna and Sarvendra Nath Shukla, in addition to Thakur and Mahato, have been expelled.
