KATHMANDU: President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has asked the government to focus on search and rescue operations during disasters, as well as post-disaster relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts, and disaster preparedness. She praised the security personnel involved in the search and rescue of those affected by floods, landslides, and inundation since the onset of monsoon, calling a team including the Home Minister to Sheetal Niwas on Friday to get information about the disaster.
President Bhandari advised the Ministry of Home Affairs to coordinate with other concerned ministries and agencies in this regard, stating that natural hazards such as earthquakes, floods, landslides, lightning, and fire should be taken into account when constructing physical infrastructure for development. She also stated that the government’s first responsibility is to protect people’s livelihoods during disasters and to ensure that the relief and rescue programs are effective for those in need.
