The CPN-UML has urged that the government set up a parliamentary investigating committee to look into the Darchula tragedy.
On July 30, local Jay Singh Dhami went missing after falling from a tuin (a cable crossing) after Indian border security agents allegedly broke the wire while Dhami was crossing the river.
After UML legislators protested the Darchula incident by standing from their seats shortly after the start of today’s House of Representatives meeting, Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota allotted time for Ganesh Singh Thagunna.
The main opposition has urged that a formal protest be filed with India on the occurrence, that action be taken against the implicated Indian SSB, and that compensation be made available to the deceased’s family.
Thagunna criticised the government of attempting to conceal up the incident and demanded that the accused Indian SSB be prosecuted.
