So I was going through the UN Park khola ko bato road at around 9pm yesterday. Police stopped me. I thought it was a routine license check so I was about to take my license out when the police said “pardaina sir, tapai ko details haru tipchau hami” and noted my name, mobile number and the bike number. When I asked him about it, all he said was “yo bato ma ko ko janu vako ho tyo tipna matra ho”. Does anyone know what this is all about and if its a regular occurrence?

I asked them once. They said it is to identify your vehicle should it get lost someday. Dimag ma chei tait mula guff hanchha sochethe, tara k garne bhanna milena tei kura
They do that sometimes so that they know who to question if some crimes occur that night on that road. Also sometimes they need to submit the details of vehicles and vehicle-owners they checked during their shift to their superiors. Pretty harmless and mainly for safety reasons.
I guess same deal as security guard of American embassy noting your name and phone number for taking photos?
Prolly also due to pathao and indriver scams!

Could be number of things. Maybe they are searching for some known criminal traveling around in that area or they could just be noting your name, number to blackmail you and make you a scapegoat in some kind of crime.
They do that in case of stolen bikes or something else nearby. Regularly hudaina tara normal nai ho.
I too have been stopped numerous times and gave my details but during the morning and when asked they say, “tapaiharu kai lagi ho” k ho xae tha xaina.
