According to the Customs Department, Nepal has imported the most cell phones up to the end of the current fiscal year 2077/78.
In just ten months, Nepal imported 6.35 million cell phones worth Rs 32.09 billion. In the same timeframe the previous year, such imports totaled Rs 14.68 billion. Customs revenue from mobile imports has brought Nepal more than Rs 5 billion.
Prior to this, the highest mobile import of Rs. 21.17 billion was registered in the first ten months of fiscal year 2074/75.
The mobile phone is the fourth most imported item in Nepal. Before mobile phones, the most important imports are diesel, semi-processed iron products, and raw soybeans. Until Baisakh, the import of these goods surpassed Rs 70 billion, Rs 57 billion, and Rs 37 billion, respectively.
